Job Summary

We are seeking a highly strategic and influential Chief of Staff to act as a key extension of the CEO in China. This is a high-impact, individual contributor role at the Vice President level, designed to ensure seamless execution and accelerated progress of our R&D portfolio in China. The successful candidate will be the primary point of contact for the CEO on all China-based operations, overseeing the advancement and implementation of R&D projects, driving cross-functional alignment, and facilitating effective communication between the China teams and US leadership. This role requires a deep understanding of biotech/pharma R&D, exceptional leadership presence, and the ability to orchestrate complex initiatives without direct line authority.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Oversight & Project Acceleration: Oversee the execution and timeline of R&D projects across early research and clinical development teams in China. Identify bottlenecks, drive decision-making processes, and ensure projects remain on track to meet corporate objectives.
  • CEO’s Key Representative in China: Serve as the primary liaison and key contact point for the CEO on all matters pertaining to the China organization. Ensure the CEO is fully informed of progress, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination & Synergy: Facilitate alignment and collaboration among various functions in China (e.g., early research, clinical development, operations etc.) to ensure integrated strategy implementation. Break down silos and foster a cohesive “One Company” approach.
  • Information Hub & Communication Bridge: Ensure timely, transparent, and accurate flow of information between China teams and the CEO/US leadership. Prepare and deliver clear, concise summaries, reports, and presentations for the CEO and executive team.
  • Operational Effectiveness: Drive key business processes, meeting rhythms, and strategic reviews within the China organization to enhance operational discipline and efficiency. Support or lead special strategic projects as directed by the CEO.
  • Influence & Stakeholder Management: Build strong, credible relationships with senior leaders and key stakeholders across the China organization. Influence outcomes and drive initiatives through persuasion, expertise, and partnership.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Advanced degree (PhD, MD, or MBA) in life sciences, business, or a related field. Scientific background is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of progressive experience within the biotech or pharmaceutical industry, with substantial experience in China.
  • Deep, hands-on understanding of the biotech R&D lifecycle, from early research through clinical development. Experience in project/program management or portfolio strategy is essential.
  • Proven experience in a senior role requiring significant cross-functional leadership, influence, and coordination without direct authority (e.g., Chief of Staff, Senior Director/VP of Strategy/Operations, Program Leadership).
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and diplomatic skills, with the ability to interact confidently and effectively with the CEO, senior executives, and scientific leaders.
  • High level of credibility, maturity, and emotional intelligence. Must command respect based on expertise, judgment, and professional demeanor.
  • Fluent in English and Mandarin, with the ability to navigate and bridge Western and Chinese corporate cultures seamlessly.
  • Self-motivated, results-driven, and capable of operating with a high degree of autonomy in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
